If you’re the owner of a hybrid or electric vehicle, or you’ve been considering purchasing one, you probably want to learn all you can about hybrid and EV service. To best assist the Fort Atkinson customers our car dealership serves, we’ve compiled the answers to several frequently asked questions about the basics of service for these next-generation green vehicles.

Q: What Do Gasoline Cars and EVs Have in Common for Maintenance Needs?

A: For the most part, electric vehicles – whether hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or all-electric cars – have many of the same components as traditional gasoline vehicles. This means that there is a large overlap between the services needed by both types of vehicles.

EVs and traditional vehicles will both require tire rotations, wheel alignments, and brake fluid replacement among other common maintenance procedures at our Ford service center. Because it has a combustion engine alongside its electric components, a hybrid vehicle like the Ford Escape will also require fuel filter replacements and Ford oil change services regularly.

Q: What Special Services Do Hybrid and Electric Cars Require?

Q: What makes hybrid and electric vehicles different from gas-powered automobiles is their high-voltage systems. This includes the battery and electric motors that either support a gasoline engine, in the case of hybrid cars, or power your car entirely.

Because of their high-quality construction, these components rarely require service, but because of their inherently dangerous nature, their inspection and repair should always be left to the professionals at our onsite maintenance center. Whether your batteries need a replacement or your electric motors are out of sync, we’re fully equipped to handle any trouble that might arise with your EV.

Q: How Can I Tell If My Hybrid or EV Requires Service?

A: Most signs that your hybrid or EV requires service are easy to spot. You might, for example, notice the absence of the torque-rich acceleration that once characterized your vehicle, or your battery might recharge more slowly than usual. In hybrid powertrains, this may also manifest as suboptimal fuel economy.

If you notice any of these issues with your hybrid or EV, give us a call and entrust your vehicle to our team of experts.
