With high anticipation from muscle car enthusiasts, the new 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show on January 14, 2019. Furthermore, with the reveal, Ford is pulling at our heart strings, as the very first VIN will be auctioned off for a wonderful cause.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 produced will be showcased at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 18, 2019 where Edsel Ford and Aaron Shelby will see it off. All proceeds will go straight to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s mission to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. Ford has long supported JDRF in their research to better the lives of diabetic children and their unrelenting search for a cure.
“JDRF always needs more muscle to help kids fight diabetes, so we are donating one of our heavyweights – the very first 2020 Shelby GT500,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, Global Operations. “We have supported JDRF for many of its nearly 50 years, so we know there’s no easy cure. That is why we are using our most iconic vehicles to help researchers find cures and help millions of children live better lives until that day arrives.”
The winning bidder, along with knowing that he/she is helping children live better, will be able to choose from all available colors and options and receive the first 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in the fall of 2019. The 5.2-liter supercharged V8 offers over 700 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque and is sure to be a head turner.
As of yet, Ford has not released the available transmission options for when it arrives at Ford dealerships. Reports have suggested that a dual-clutch gearbox with paddle shifters will be the only option, although there have been rumors of a six-speed manual available option as well that might show up on other Ford cars too.
