How Do I Change My Ford Tire?
Knowing how to change or replace a tire is incredibly useful in the event of damage. Here’s a look at the steps you’ll want to take to get the new tire on your vehicle and your car back out on the road.
- Get Your Vehicle to Safety: Before you change your tire, you want to make sure that you and your vehicle are safe. Navigate away from traffic or other dangers and flip on your hazard lights.
- Chock Your Wheels: You want to ensure that your Ford vehicle won’t go anywhere while you service it. Engage the parking brake and chock the tires for that added peace of mind.
- Loosen the Lug Nuts: Some vehicles have a hubcap or wheel cover, which will need to be removed before you can loosen the lug nuts. Once the lug nuts are visible, loosen them, but don’t remove them completely.
- Raise the Car: Use your vehicle manual to determine the best location for jacking the car. Once the jack is firmly in place, raise the vehicle until the tire is about six inches off the ground.
- Remove the Tire: Finish loosening the lug nuts and remove the damaged tire.
- Replace the Tire: Put the spare tire into place by lining up the lug nuts. Then begin to tighten the lug nuts into place by hand.
- Lower and Tighten Again: Bring the tire down to the ground, but still support it by the jack. Finish tightening the lug nuts with your wrench.
- Lower Completely: Remove the jack and replace the hubcap or cover.
